Having to buy more channels just to get to use a DVR function? - that is low

I'm actually a very satisfied ATT customer.  i have been for over 10 years.  However when i downloaded the iPhone app so that i can watch shows ive recorded with my Uverse DVR only to find out i have to upgrade to a higher package, i was so thoroughly dissappointed.  Why should a customer have to buy additional channels they do not want just to use a DVR function?  To me.. this seems so petty to nickel and dime a customer in order to use the same technology as higher paying customers...   It really is a shame.

That iPhone app does not allow you to watch programs that you have recorded on your DVR regardless of what U-verse package you are subscribed to.  Thus, you can calm down.

Below is a link to a description of what the app does do.

I have a SlingBox which is awesome. I can wacth my cable TV from anywhere including my DVR shows. , You hook it up to your stb, then your wireless internet.

I got an amazon gift card and got SlingBox for around $250. Then downloaded the player on all my laptops and computers for free.

The player to download for your computer/laptop is free but the Android app cost a one time cost of $30. To me it' was worth it.

All I really had to pay was $30 since I had an amazon gift card.

I think I would prefer to watch my dvr recordings on my computer than my phone.  Just my preference.

True, but unless yo u have  a netbook, your phone may be the only option in some cases (like a dr.s office).

I play games while waiting at the doc's ofc. :smileyhappy:  Too small of a screen for on a phone for watching TV, IMO.

I have watched a few programs on my phone, I am just not interested in watching a screen that small.  I definitely see a slinbox in my future.

I have a Slingbox with my iPad 3G. I love it. I even watch TV in the house if I am in a room that does not have a box while I am cleaning/organizing. But, I have also used it on long car rides to catch up on my recorded shows. It is a wonderful combination to use since the switch to Digital TV. Watching on a little TV is no longer much of an option, because reception is difficult if you want to watch actual current TV or your own recorded shows. Can't wait until football games. If we have a late game, everyone always wants to watch the earlier games while tailgating. Now I can do this on my iPad. By the way, I am 66 and a female...not the usual demographic for this sort of thing.

I worked with a guy last year who has slingbox and he loves it also.  The other issue with watching tv on a phone is all of the bandwidth you are going to use.  And with the limits companies are trying to put on bandwidth usages.  Or charge more for it.

Someone (either here or UU.com) mentioned using a Slingbox + an iPhone to watch DVR'd shows, while riding the train from from home to work.  I could probably get used to the small screen and that is an ingenious way of time killing while commuting.

If you are on a plane, waiting for someone who is shopping, waiting for a child to finish practice, choir rehearsal.  Waiting for wife and daughter to finish browsing.  I can think of several.

Indeed!  The FloTV looked cool but not the price.

In 2003, I flew Frontier from Indy to Denver and return.  My trip out was the last for that route on a 737 300 series (no frills).  The following Monday, was on a shiny, new Airbus.  That craft had 7" or so LCD's in the seatbacks.  For an extra $5 you could watch satellite TV.  I got stuck in the middle seat, so that $5 was the best that monery I ever spent!

I could think of many instances where video on the go, would be great to pass the time!

I've got the app but it doesn't have the Watch feature on my Ipod Touch because I only have u200, not u300 as is needed to have the Watch capability. Too bad. I can't see upgrading just for that. I do use another app called AirVideo Server that has a free lite version or the paid version. The paid one is only $2.99 and worth it. I can stream videos from my computer to my Touch, even remotely. Cool app. With a slightly bigger screen on my Touch than my phone I don't mind watching TV or movies on it. Especially in bed when I can't sleep. The NetFlix app is great for that too and I'm currently using only the trial version for 30 days for that. Tempting to pay the $8.95 a month for streaming TV and movies. We'll see. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Some of it can be a bummer.
