Or better yet, a Roku for less than $100 with no monthly charges except

for the Netflix subscription.

My Samsung Blu-ray player also streams Netflix movies.  It's great: really convenient and the picture quality, though not HD, is pretty decent.  The only drawback is Netflix only allows certain movies to be streamed, not all.  Still, it's a great feature.

Besides Roku, the XBox 360, PS3, Wii and some TV's and Blu-Ray players, what are other options for streaming videos from the PC to a TV?  I'm as interested in streaming .avi files from my PC to a TV, as I am Netflix or Hulu.

The Popcorn Hour is a pretty good streamer, but it has some firmware bugs that you have to work around.  I have one (older A-110 model), and it streams M2TS and MKV files pretty well.

 

I have the LG BD390 Bluray that has wireless setup and stream Netflix, CinemaNow (sucks) and VUDU (pretty nice) also can do 'My Media' and I have a 320 GB portable hd connected via USB that I copy all my .avi and .mkv movies to and can watch that way.  Besides being a great BR player.  Love it!!!!!

I have the LG BD370 (not wireless).  Could you PLEASE tell me how you got this to work?  When I go to set up for Netflix streaming with mine, I keep getting "not connected to the internet" message and it won't activate.  I have my Ethernet cable connected from the blu-ray to my gateway (Broadband port - not sure this is correct?).  HELP!

I have Samsung Media Extander which has build in Netflix and some other providers connected to Linksys WRT-600N (Dual Band Router) which takes care of all my wireless needs. Also great for streaming HD  Movies, Photos and music straight to your TV

The Broadband port is for FTTP connections.  You must use one of the 4 yellow bordered ones, or plug a switch or hub in to one of the yellow ones and hook to that.

When I was connecting my TV (45LH50) to netflix via the Gateway, I had to temporarily place it into the DMZ to get Netflix to register correctly.  Otherwise I was getting the exact same error "not connected to Internet".  I'm sure if I took the time I could have figured out the firewall settings, but for the couple of mins to get the TV activated, using the DMZ was fine.  I then restored the gateway settings afterwards.

Ekuttes, Sorry, haven't visited the forums for a few days (**bleep** Work)...Anyway, I didn't connect directly to the RG, I connected wirelessly, and I've also connected via the ethernet port on the back of the DVR system itself.  Both worked fine.  I just connected, then went into the setup via LG Menu and entered my info there, it was very fast and simple...Good luck

Well...on the back of the DVR there is only ONE ethernet port - *&^%$!!!! - so, it looks like I need to go and get an ethernet hub or somethingy, b/c it is already occupied by the ethernet plug that goes to the RG...the words "fast" and "simple" are not working for me in this case!  LOL!  We've had the bluray player since before Christmas and I STILL can't figure this out!  (SHOULD have bought a wireless bluray, but this one was "free" w/ the purchase of the TV @ Best Buy...)

Welllllll....I DID IT!  Here is what I had to do: 1) Connected RG computer line into a Linksys "workgroup switch" (ethernet switch - purchased @ Office Depot for $25).  2) Connected main computer (PC) line to ethernet switch in port #1.  3) Connected bluray disc player into ethernet switch port #2.  4) Activated my Netflix streaming; connection to internet was a success!  5)  Started adding movies to my queue....

 

No, I did not have ANY ports open on my RG.  I am starting to wonder if I have an "older" RG, as we have had U-VERSE for over a year now.  The guy @ Office Depot seemed surprised also with this.  We have 3 TVs and one PC hooked up to the gateway.

No, we all have the same old RG, only 4 Ethernet, so using a switch is the way to go!

 

BTW, how is the streaming (for movies in that genre) on your TV?  Netflix does fine on son's Xbox, but haven't tried on TV.

Do you have UV HSI, fastest speed?

EK, So glad to finally hear you got it working....Have you checked for FW updates?  Have you tried VUDU out yet?  We really like it so far.  Now if they (LG/AMazon) would allow rentals from them, I'd be all set.  What I really love about the LG is the ability to play mkv files, so most of my movies are "acquired" online and then just copied to the 320 GB external portable hd....Great System, great picture...Anyway, glad you got it working finally.

spdemun:  Last night was the first opportunity for us to try the streaming.  It looked great to me.  I believe we are "trying out" UV Pro on our internet speed; not sure what effect going back to the speed we had before will do to our streaming picuture.  You can FF, RW, Pause, etc, just like you would w/a disc. 

 

bd:  I am thinking I may not have all the "perks" that you do on my bluray, seeings how mine is the step down from your model (?).  We have the Netflix, CinemaNow, + YOU TUBE.  I think that's it.  I feel that between cable, HD TV, Netflix rentals, and streaming, we have enough TV to watch for now.  (o:

@spd2demun: I have the 6mb internet package and Netflix runs well over this (have an LG broadband TV).  If the movie is in HD, then this speed will handle it along with a few other people surfing the web.  Netflix still only streams with stereo audio.  Once they start with the newer video/audio profiles (at some point in the future) this may chance the requirements on bandwidth.

I use AppleTV with Itunes.

 

You can rent or buy movies, have 30 days to watch and 24hours to watch after starting the movies

 

Both SD & HD versions are available

Is it possible to stream netflix on U-Verse DVR?

No.  You will need a media streamer (Asus OPlay, WD, Seagate) OR a net connected Blu-Ray player but not through the UV STB.

Was I misinformed.  From the conversations on here it seems you need other equipment.

 

I believe there are two levels to this question - (1) can the signal get through? (2) can the signal be used (viewed/tuned).

 

Part one is when the STB is connected to the network via COAX the internet signal does come through the ethernet connection. Although, it is not officially supported, many of us have used it with success.

 

Part two - To make use of this signal you need a device to make sense of it. Sounds like your new TV is one of those devices. It is the documentation for your TV that will show you how to do it.

 

I have an old panasonic plasma connected HDMI1 to the U-verse DVR for u_verse TV and HDMI2 to a computer connected to an ethernet connection for streaming. The compter performs the selection/tuning function for streaming (like the DVR does for U-verse TV). Your new TV must have a similar selection/tuning functionality built in as my computer. If not you need one of the many devices mentioned above to do that.

 

You can visualize it with your computer that is hooked up to the network port. Go through the steps that you need to to view the streaming on your monitor. If you can do those same steps on your new TV, you are all set.
