Re: Not able to record to DVD

I've had Comcast and Direct and I had no issues burning DVDs of my favorite shows. I switched to Uverse and now I can't, for most channels. It would be professional if the salepeople would tell you that before you signed up. If any ATT managers can take the time away from their video game playing, it would be a good idea to actually tell your potential customers.

Re: Not able to record to DVD
james954 - Are you saying you cannot extract a show at the data layer from the network port?

You should be able to play the recording and burn a DVD from the composite (SD) or component(HD) jacks.

Some units will work better than others, but you still run into Macrovision and DRM prohibitions to copy anything to DVD.  Just because Comcrap or DirecTV  'allowed' you to make copies, it might not have been proper to do so. :smileywink:

I would dare say that only 1 in 50 or maybe 1 in 100 will archive shows to DVD recordables or VCR's so I doubt that issue (if it is even one) is that high of a priority.  Apparently missing NHL, Hallmark and Local on the 8's are the big ones, lol.

Re: Not able to record to DVD

I don't think I am exaggerating when I say that Uverse service SUCKS! The stupid DVR crashes at least 4 times a week and screws up recordings and internet. And I can't record my shows or movies to DVD anymore on HBO. I miss Time Warner Cable...at least they let you record whatever the heck you want with no restrictions. I am about to give these crapboxes back to AT&T and go back to TWC and would advise others to do the same!

If those issues are occurring, you have problems with your system that need to be resolved.  Have you contacted Technical Support?

By the way, you should not be able to burn movies to a DVD from HBO with any service provider due to Digital Rights Management.

Re: Not able to record to DVD

I have the same problem. I had Comcast and then Direct and I could burn DVDs with no problem. We were never told that U-verse has copy protection, not that I expect a sales rep to explain every detail. I'm sorry I switched to U-verse.

I'm not sure if that is 100% accurate.  Composite cables might just work for that......  HDMI and maybe even component cables might give you that error (ie "digital" rights).  I'm just not an "archiver," lol, so I wouldn't know for sure.
