Can Uverse Voice send Voicemail message as attachment via email automatically?

Just got U-verse voice on tuesday, and would like to setup an automatic voice to email message delivery. Thus, when someone leaves a message, I get an email WITH the message in it.

Currently, I can get an email that says "You have the following number of non-urgent messages:" but I then have to login into the Uverse web site (not easy from iPhone) and then I can chose to forward an email to me that then has the actual message. Once the email is sent I can then check the voicemail via the iPhone mail client.Yes, I know that I could dial the phone number, enter the home number, the PIN, and then listen to message #1, #2, #3, ...etc. But, what I've had for the past 8 years is a WAV attached to an email with the date, time, number, CallerID of the sender in the email body/subject. It works beautifully.

How can I have the message be sent to my email automatically?

Scott

PS> If I can't do it through u-verse voice, then I have to figure out how to make my VoiceModem like the new VoIP dial tone. :smileysad:

Are the messages coming into your spam folder? If they are it is because of the functionality restrictions of spam messages. You can change some settings in your pop forwarding to get you closer...

Re: Can Uverse Voice send Voicemail message as attachment via email automatically?

It's not that I don't get an email from Uverse. I get an email that is useless in it's information content.

So, you call the house number, leave a message, and I get an email that says...

Voice message received from "tel: 6195551212" <unknown_caller@um.att.com> You have the following number of non-urgent messages:

1 urgent voice message

3 non-urgent voice message

I then go to a web browser, enter my username, then enter my password, wait 5 seconds, click on the link that says "New Voice Mail Messages", wait 5 seconds, click on the link that says "Voice message from WIRELESS CALL...", wait 5 seconds, click the "Actions" pull down menu and select "Forward via email", wait 5 seconds, enter my own email address, and then wait a few minutes for email delivery...

Finally, I get an email that says...

Subject:Voice message from WIRELESS CALLER (6195551212) From:"tel: 6195551212" <unknown_caller@um.att.com> Date:Wed, 28 Jan 2009 18:42:15 -0800 (PST) To:smileyfrustrated:cott Kennedy <200901200505094478585551212@uvm.att.com> Attachments: message.wav

Why can't I get the second email automatically? That's the message I want/need to get, the one that tells me who called, from what number, and attaches the actual WAV file of the message.

How do you even set it up to send an e-mail that you ahve one?  That would be a start and better than nothing!  I would love to have it actually e-mail the .wav to me automatically too.

Just go into the "Manage Message Settings", select "Email Notification" and set it to "on".

Then click "Add Email Addresses" button, enter your email address, and click "save".

You'll now get the email.

Couldn't remember how to do it.  Good job.

Thanks!

Now they just need to get it to send the .wav file!

I second the motion.  The motion has passed and AT&T now has to implement the feature to allow us to send .wav voice mail files to ourselves automatically.

When I first got U-voice it sent voice mails as attachments, but I couldn't get them to play when I clicked on them.  When they stopped coming I figured AT&T was trying to resolve the issue.

Re: Can Uverse Voice send Voicemail message as attachment via email automatically?
After researching on web and reading this forum, I just want to make sure it's currently impossible to listen to the voicemail on an iPhone. I have the voicemail messages forwarded to my iPhone and like others, only get a link. After logging into uverse and finally getting to the page where you click on the sound icon, the iPhone's Quicktime says it can not play this movie. Has anyone found any workarounds? I have looked at Internet radio apps that might open them but wanted to see if anyone else has found a solution.

I will say that you cannot play back the voice mails at all at this time.  Hopefully whatever the issue is will get resolved in the near future.

Optimum also allows sending the sound file in an email.

It is absurd that this functionality is omitted.  Makes the service much less desirable.

AT&T - your goal should be to make this the BEST system around.

This is such incredibly basic functionality- how could you not have it?

Other comments - when you recognize a phone number as being a US phone, why not format the number?
Does anyone at the phone company (Yes, I STILL think of AT&T as "the phone company" think that +1 212 456-2345 is easier to read than 12124562345?  It's all about providing information quickly and effectively.

So plesae format the phone numbers you send us in the email notificications and display on the site.

And while we are at it - your site is very SLOW!

They had it for awhile but I could never get the voice mail messages to play.  I kept getting the error message "unable to open file".  I guess they pulled the feature and are working out the bugs.

Uverse can't, but Google Voice can!!

As Google Voice rolls out, none of this will even matter and maybe ATT already sees the writing on the wall. With Google voice, my voice messages will never get to the Uverse voice mail system. Instead I will be instantly alerted and able to listen to messages at any computer or on an iPhone, Blackberry, Android phone using visual voice mail. In addition, Google will immediately transcribe the voice message to text and send it via email and/or SMS to my phone. And yes, it's free. Surely you've heard of it.

We may even find ourselves canceling home phone service. Oh wait, millions of people already have....

Re: Uverse can't, but Google Voice can!!
The problem I'm having with Google Voice and my iPhone is that the voicemail on my phone picks up before I get the call. I'll get one ring and then the call goes to my iPhone voicemail. Is there a way to disable AT&T voicemail or delay it from picking up?

Re: Uverse can't, but Google Voice can!!

I found an interim solution for those of us waiting for Google Voice invitations!

youmail.com provides a free service that replaces cell carrier voicemail and sends email with mp3 voice mail attachment as well as SMS alert. You can setup multiple lines which can include a home phone if you so  desire. So now when my home Uverse line rings, it's set to forward the call to my youmail voice mail if no one answers, which sends the mp3 to my phone via email. They also provide voice transcription for a fee, but something that is really cool is 'custom greetings' based on caller ID. Different callers hear different greetings that you can setup or record.

There are YouMail clients for Blackberry and iPhone (maybe others?), but it works fine with any phone that can receive email and play mp3 attachments.
