Yes. This service works with most fax machines when connected to the AT&T gateway In order to use a fax machine with your U-verse phone service, you need to ensure that the fax LINE connector is connected to the gateway, rather than the PHONE connector. These connectors are usually marked Line and Phone or "L" and "P", or are designated by use of small icons.

You didn't specify on what model HP you have or whether you tried to fax and it didn't work, there are a few suggestions I can offer. First, make sure the fax machine is plugged into an active phone line and that it's getting a dial tone. Second, lower the baud rate to 9600, you'll need to read owner's manual on how to perform this setting. If it still doesn't work, as a last resort, try using a DSL filter on the line to the fax.

Some fax machines require analog phone lines and will not work on the digital (VOIP) lines.
